Boys will be boys...…and sometimes look like girls.

“For humans, an androgyne (in terms of gender identity), is a person who does not fit cleanly into the typical masculine and feminine gender roles of their society. They may also use the term ambigender to describe themselves. Many androgynes identify as being mentally "between" woman and man, or as entirely genderless.

Andrej Pejic

The sensation of today's fashionworld has the body of Kate Moss and Cindy Crawford's jaws. But look a bit closer: this is not a woman. A slender figure. Long, platinum blonde hair. A face with high cheekbones. Full of femininity. That’s what makes this androgynous model the most controversial model of the moment.

Andrej Pejic (19) owes his success to its perfect timing: he is the right man at the right time. The robust, virile and macho-looking men are finished. Fashion in the year 2011 calls for softness.  Pejic has that profile, he is cuddly. Simultaneously, he is mysterious, elusive, which makes him futuristic. Crisis, disasters, wars coarsens our society so fast that we would rather see skinny models than macho men. Today boys may be girlish and vice versa.

His frail looks are a huge contrast to his rough childhood in the former Yugoslavia. He is the son of a Croatian father and Serbian mother survived the NATO bombing, and fled to Australia at the age of eighth.
